What are the pre-requirements?

  • An applicant shall be at least 18 years of age.
  • The candidate holds a valid flight crew licence, ratings adequate to the field instructed, Flight Instructor FI(A) privilege and act as a PIC on the given aircraft for the full duration of the course.
  • EASA Medical Class II or Class I certificate.
  • ICAO English Level 4.
  • Have completed at least 500 hours of flight time, including 200 hours of flight instruction.
  • Within a 6 months period before the commencement of the course, the instructor must have undergone a pre-assessment conducted by an instructor authorized to deliver an Advance Upset Prevention and Recovery Training Instructor (A-UPRT Instructor) course.

What are the limitations of the Advance Upset Prevention and Recovery Training Instructor
(A-UPRT Instructor) licence?

The current course does not include aerobatics operations.

The focus of the 6 hours training is on the theoretical elements of the A-UPRT course, as well as additional elements that are essential for the instructor to train effectively. These include:

    • Threat and Error Management
    • Single Pilot Crew Resource Management (CRM)
    • Aerodynamics pertinent to aircraft including physiological and psychological effects on pilots during upsets
    • Studying and memorizing procedures and techniques for upset recovery to apply during practical exercises.

Minimum 6 hours flight training on aircraft.

Topics covered during the flight training:

    • Guidance on how the trainee can recover from any potential abnormalities that may occur during the A-UPRT course due to incorrect handling of the aircraft, with particular focus on recovery from a spin.
    • Effects of G-loading on aircraft performance.
    • Rollover scenarios at different situations and speeds.

At the end of the training programme, students are required to complete an official check flight, during which a flight examiner is on board to assess their skills and performance. The examination is 1.5 hours.
